Deeping Rangers travel to face Walsall Wood in FA Vase tie

More news, no ads

Deeping Rangers manager Daniel French wants to see more of the same from his side as they get back on the FA Vase trail this weekend.

The Clarets travel to face Midland League side Walsall Wood who reached the semi-finals of the competition last season.

The West Midlands side were beaten by eventual winners Warrington Rylands when they were just 90 minutes away from a date at Wembley Stadium.

Dan Flack is suspended but Jones De Sousa returns to the Clarets squad.

It is Walsall’s first match in the Vase competition this campaign due to last season’s exploits while Deeping have already won three games to reach the second round stage.

They accounted for Holwell Sports and Dunkirk at the Haydon Whitham Stadium before winning at United Counties League Premier Division North rivals Newark in the last round on penalties.

Rangers will go into the contest buoyed by an excellent away draw at second-placed Gresley Rovers last weekend.

The 1-1 draw was the first time this season that Gresley had dropped points at home and boss French is hoping his side can produce a repeat performance this weekend.

He said: “Our performance at Gresley last Saturday has set us up nicely for the FA Vase. It will be a similar situation where it's a bit of an unknown.

"I am confident that, if we're at the level we showed last Saturday, then we can get something.

"Their league form hasn't been great so we go there with a lot of confidence.

"We're going by coach so it will feel like a proper day for the lads and I'm hoping that we can show the same level as last weekend."

Full-back Dan Flack will be suspended for the Vase tie after being booked twice in the competition already this season but Deeping will be boosted by the return of Jones De Sousa.
