Spalding United beat Shepshed Dynamo in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division
Three goals in 10 minutes fired Spading United to victory in their Northern Premier League Midlands Division match with Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday.
Top scorer Jordan Macleod struck twice with Ben Starkie also on target against his former club to ensure the first victory for recently-appointed manager Brett Whaley in his maiden home match at the helm.
The trio of goals came in the final 18 minutes of the game which had been an end-to-end contest with home goalkeeper Michael Duggan making some fine saves at crucial times for the Tulips.
Spalding had handed a debut to new signing Dylan Edge and the former King's Lynn and Wisbech striker was at the heart of the Tulips' early attacking threat.
His flick-on sent Ben Seymour-Shove clear in the opening exchanges, only for Jordan Wakeling to thwart the Spalding break with a superb last-ditch tackle.
Edge then provided the pass that sent Jordan Macleod racing clear only for his early effort to be smothered by Brandon Ganley in the Dynamo goal.
Home custodian Duggan was then called into action with a fine save to palm away a stinging shot from Dempsey Arlott-John.
Ganley showed good reactions to keep out an effort from former Shepshed player Starkie before Duggan dived full length to tip away a goalbound header from Matt Melbourne.
The two teams continued to trade chances as the half drew to a close with Ganley turning away a dangerous cross from Macleod before Jack Rogers lobbed an effort over the bar for the visitors after a slick attack on the heavy Sir Halley Stewart surface.
Duggan again excelled at the start of the second period with a superb save to claw away John King's back post header.
Stefan Broccoli was inches away from connecting with a Seymour-Shove cross at the other end before Spalding took the lead as the game entered the final 20 minutes.
Full-back Ollie Price did well to win possession and his pass found Edge whose strong and run cross was converted at the back post by Macleod.
Spalding were quick to capitalise on taking the lead as they doubled their advantage minutes later when Broccoli latched onto Starkie's pass and rounded goalkeeper Ganley who sent the Tulips midfielder flying.
Broccoli did pick himself up to tap home the loose ball but referee Joshua Croft had already blown for a penalty.
Ganley was red-carded and Macleod stepped up to convert the penalty past Wakeling who had taken over the goalkeeping duties.
A third Spalding goal then put the contest beyond their 10-man visitors when Starkie slalomed his way through the Dynamo defence before firing past the advancing Wakeling.
The victory ended a run of five games without a win and moved the Tulips up a couple of places in the league table to 11th spot.
