W Series driver Abbi Pulling started her first full season in the championship with a strong showing by taking fourth and sixth in the double-header race weekend in Miami.

The W Series is a completely equal ladies competition – equivalent to Formula Three – with it being free for drivers to enter, and all the entrants have mechanically identical machinery.

The Miami weekend did not start well for Pulling – who hails from Gosberton – after she came 13th in practice, 11 places behind her Brazilian team-mate Bruna Tomaselli.

Pulling performed better in qualifying, which dictated the grid for both of the championship races that weekend, by taking ninth - two places ahead of Tomaselli.

The opening race of the season started with chaos after championship contender Alice Powell collided with the barriers, causing a prolonged safety car period and red flag but also moving Pulling up to eighth.

During this time, Pulling flat-spotted her front-left tyre, disadvantaging her for the remainder of the race due to team orders to drive carefully.

She then benefited from a crash between fellow British driver Abbie Eaton and Fabienne Wohlwend, moving her up into sixth position.

The resultant safety car left one final racing lap in which Pulling tussled with Click2Drive racer Beitske Visser for fifth position.

In the end, Pulling took fourth in the first race after a spin from Emma Kimilainen and a penalty for Marta Garcia, moving her up two places.

The second race on the Sunday started badly for the Racing X driver after she lost two places on the first lap.

Following this, Pulling pulled off overtakes on Wohlwend, Jessica Hawkins, Marta Garcia, Visser and Sarah Moore on the Miami track with a difficult surface, meaning she finished the race in sixth position.

In her charge through the field, Pulling also set the fastest lap time of the race.

After her performance at the double-header in Miami, Pulling goes into the next race at Barcelona fourth in the championship.

The W Series season continues in Spain on May 20-22.
