Last race of the season for Pulling

Gosberton racing sensation Abbi Pulling takes part in her final race of the season at Brands Hatch this weekend.

And the 17-year-old ex-Bourne Academy student has branded her first season in a Formula 4 car as a success.

Pulling has achieved a podium place on three separate occasions, including one at Brands Hatch where she is set to race again this weekend.

The ex-Super One TKM British Karting champion currently lies in sixth place in the championship in what is only her second season racing cars.

“I think it’s been quite a successful year,” Pulling said. “Obviously, there’s been some down points and also some massive highs, like there is in any sport, but that’s why I love it.

“Now there’s the potential for me to kick on next season as I become used to driving, and I think I’ve got the motivation to do so as well.

“I’ve built a great relationship with my team, JHR Developments, over the season and have been doing lots of preparation work with Gazing Performance Systems to mentally prepare for the final race weekend of the season.

“I’m desperate for that top step on the podium and it will come. I’m still young but I’ve got time to develop as a racer.”

Pulling was the only woman invited to take part in the Formula Renault Eurocup at Imola, Italy, two weeks ago.

The teenage prodigy was largely pleased about the weekend’s experience, saying: “It was obviously a superb occasion to get the chance to race at Imola and it was definitely the highlight of my season.

“It started off tricky and I was definitely thrown in at the deep end.

“But I got used to the track, got used to the car and, eventually, my times kept improving, which for me personally is a positive thing.”

When asked what the aim going forward would be, Pulling cited F1 as one of her options.

“Obviously, the ultimate aim would be Formula 1, but we would have to see in the future. I’m only young still and I’ve got plenty of options to look at. There’s no one thing that I want to put my mind to.

“I’ve always said that doing Le Mans would interest me greatly and I could also be tempted by something like GT racing, so I definitely wouldn’t want to rule anything out.”
