Pinchbeck United recorded their biggest victory of pre-season as they rounded off their preparations for the new United Counties League campaign on Saturday.

The Knights were 6-2 winners at Glebe Field against Thurlow Nunn League Division One side Huntingdon Town after overturning an early deficit.

Lewis Thorogood's side conceded a penalty after just 48 seconds and then Huntingdon added a second goal just before the 15-minute mark.

However, Pinchbeck hit back in style to score four goals before the interval and they then added another two after the break while also hitting the upright twice.

Ben Johnson and Andre Williams both bagged braces for the Knights with Elliot Foster and new signing Niall Parsons also on target to leave manager Thorogood content with his side ahead of Saturday's home Premier Division North opener against Loughborough Students.

He said: "We rounded off pre-season fairly well as Huntingdon are a tidy little side.

"We are a lot more organised and further forward in terms of pre-season than we were last year.

"We dominated possession on Saturday, created some good little passages of play and responded after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Wyberton last Wednesday.

"We conceded two sloppy goals which we do need to cut out but, after that, it just clicked and we absolutely ran riot.

"We asked the lads for more of the same in the second half. They scored twice more and we've hit the post twice as well.

"I am really pleased that we are consistently scoring goals. We have finished pre-season on a little run of four games unbeaten which gives us a little bit of momentum and breeds good habits.

"We are looking fitter and stronger than last pre-season and I am satisfied with the last six weeks.

"We are certainly in a good position to start the season but it's a massive whirlwind roller-coaster of seven days.

"Loughborough will be a very good outfit who have beaten Watford and Derby Under 23s in friendlies as well as dismantling Rushden & Diamonds.

"We've then got a local derby in front of a big crowd against Wisbech before the FA Cup tie at Melton Town."

Spalding go into their home friendly with a Peterborough United side on Friday night after netting nine goals in their last two outings without conceding.

The Tuips scored five second half goals to defeat Deeping Rangers last Wednesday night.

The Clarets had held their higher level visitors to a goalless opening period before the Spalding turned up the heat after the break.

Recent recruit Archie Jones broke the deadlock seven minutes into the second half with Stefan Broccoli doubling the advantage shortly after when he headed home following an overhead kick from Toby Hilliard.

Hilliard was again the provider for Spalding's third goal which was converted by Dylan Edge who then netted his second of the night following fine play from Sam Harris.

Matt Sparrow completed the scoring when he converted a cross from Edge for Spalding's second success in three pre-season outings following the goalless draw with St Ives at the weekend.

That was then backed up by a four-goal victory at Harrowby United on Friday night with all their strikes this time coming in the first half.

Jordan O'Brien fired the Tulips ahead before Elliot Sandy doubled the advantage after punishing a mix-up in the Harrowby defence.

O'Brien netted from the penalty spot after Archie Jones had been fouled with the former Peterborough United youngster then providing the pass for Sandy to score his second and Spalding's fourth before the break.

Deeping bounced back from their defeat against Spalding with a 3-0 home success against higher level on Yaxley on Saturday.

Ta'i Williams put the Clarets ahead against their Northern Premier League East Division visitors before Aaron Eyett increased the advantage ahead of half-time.

Rangers sealed their success after the break when Marcus Pancho saw his cross turned into the net by a Yaxley defender.

Deeping - whose friendly at Blackstones on Monday night was cancelled - start their Premier Division North season on Saturday with a trip to Sherwood Colliery.

Holbeach United and Bourne Town are both in action tonight (Tuesday) with home friendlies as they target a return to winning ways.

The Tigers host Peterborough League Premier Division neighbours Crowland Town after a 3-2 away loss at March Town on Friday.

Two late goals secured victory for the Hares in the BKD Cup after George Martin and a stunning strike from Callum Davies had put the Tigers ahead in an impressive performance from Danny Clifton and Simon Roberts' team.

Bourne welcome Oakham United to the Abbey Lawn after a 4-2 away loss at Melton Town last Thursday night.

Goals from Ben Cowles and Nathan Smith had given Bourne a two-goal interval lead before their Premier Division North hosts hit back after the break to secure the win.
