Moulton Harrox defeat Crowland Town in Peterborough League Premier Division clash
Patience paid off for Moulton Harrox as they secured back-to-back wins in the Peterborough League Premier Division with victory over Crowland Town on Saturday.
Harrox had been trailing at the break to Jordan Kirchin's penalty despite a dominant display from Bobby Patterson and Tim Cole's side.
They had dropped points earlier in the season after failing to make their dominance count in games but second half goals from Andy Law and Dec Earth ensured a fourth win of the season for Harrox.
Patterson said: "We dominated the game from the start. We controlled it and peppered their goal.
"Their keeper has had a really good game and pulled off two or three excellent saves and we've also hit the bar.
"It was just one of those games where the ball wasn't going in but we knew that if we were patient we would get a goal.
"They've scored just before half-time but I said to the lads at the break that we shouldn't panic and start going route one.
"We needed to be patient and, with the quality we've got, we will make more opportunities and the law of averages suggested that we would take some.
"To be fair to the lads, they came out for the second half and kept calm and we eventually got our rewards and I was really pleased with their reaction."
It was an uncharacteristic error from goalkeeper Brendan Taylor that helped Crowland take the lead as he fumbled a free-kick which had been hit into the box before felling a visiting player as he attempted to gather the loose ball.
Kirchin was successful from the spot to give the lead to a Crowland side who were unbeaten since the opening day of the league season.
Harrox rallied again after the break and got back on level terms just past the hour mark when Law cut inside and rifled home a fine finish into the top corner of the Crowland net.
They then introduced new signing Reif Clarke and the former Holbeach and St Neots player had an immediate impact to help Harrox hit the front.
He raced onto a ball over the top but, just as he was poised to shoot, Clarke was clipped from behind by a Crowland defender and Harrox were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area.
Earth stepped up to take the free-kick which he whipped around the wall and into the corner of the Crowland net off the post to secure the win.
Harrox now turn their attentions to the Lincolnshire Junior Cup this weekend when they host Nettleham at Broad Lane.
Striker Josh Ford will return to the squad after missing Saturday's win while Billy King made his first appearance of the season at the weekend as a late substitute.
Patterson added: "We have got a good record in this competition and we want to do well in it but we know that we will be up against some strong sides and on Saturday we will have to be at our best to get through.
"The players always lift themselves for the county cup because it is something we look forward to and hopefully we can go out and do a job on Saturday."
