GOSBERTON driver Andi Newman was the top local performer in the 2L Stock Car English Championship last Saturday at King’s Lynn’s Norfolk Arena.
Another solid performance saw him come a credible eighth place in the championship race. Former world champion Shaun Webster (Sheffield) won the race.
Newman put in a good performance in the White and Yellows’ Race, coming third.
His cousin Steve Newman made his 2011 debut in the 2L Saloons and although he performed well, luck was not on his side and he failed to make the top ten all night.
Simon Venni (Sutton St James) once again looked good. In the red and blue graded heats he was fourth and sixth in the two heats while Jamie Clayton (Moulton) also put some great races in his heats from the very back of the grid and placed eighth and 12th in the heats.
The 1300 Stock Cars saw Tom Yould (Donington) in great form once again as he consolidated his position amongst the stars with another great drive to win the first heat. It was Tom’s brother Ben who produced the most competition in his heat win and when Tom went by, Ben had a go at the back end of his brother to try and retake the lead but Tom rode out the challenge and went on to win.
Gold Roof Champion Dan Booth (Pinchbeck) was the best finisher in the final in sixth place from the back of the grid which was backed up by a tenth place finish in his heat.
Although it was tough work Booth showed his credentials once again with another polished display.
