MOTORCYCLING: National title for Gavin
Sutton Bridge racer Gavin Mills has been crowned British 125 GP champion with one round remaining.
After crashing out at Donington, he headed to Castle Combe needing to finish one race in the top four but claimed victory.
Mills was named rider of the year - winning the Open Championship, British 125 Summer Championship and John Lee 2 stroke 125 Cup.
He is also the lap record holder at Snetterton.
Mills said: "It's been a very busy year with preparing all the machines for the riders as well as maintaining them and riding myself.
"A lot of people seem to think that I just jump on and go but I have to look after all the other bikes while there.
"If they have problems, I have to fix them to ensure they go out as well as myself.
"When I get home, I have to strip the bikes and check them over as well as working as a HGV technician for DAF and putting time in to spend with my six-year-old son Ryan.
"He calls the trophies I bring home piston cups. He knows I go and win for him.
"This year I ran a team of four riders including myself and Reg Richardson from Stone has supplied us with the machines to do a whole season plus next year with NG Road Racing Club which we have been attending.
"I jumped onto a Honda RS 250 GP machine at Castle Combe circuit with an overall finish of fifth and third place in the 2 stroke cup.
"It was fantastic to get those results plus being only two seconds off the leading three riders who had all been racing 250s for many years and had more track experience."
Mills' team are looking for sponsorship plus one or two riders to join next year. They must hold an ACU licence and be over the age of 14. For more information, email email@example.com
