The Castle Sports Complex staged an invitation tournament on Sunday to highlight table tennis and promote the Spalding League.

The day consisted of four teams taking part – Spalding, Hinckley, Cambridge and Chesterfield – who competed against each other.

This resulted in a grand final between Chesterfield and Hinckley, with Chesterfield retaining the cup.

The result was no surprise as the winners are part of a strong league which consists of 60 teams.

The Spalding team of John Gilbert, Richard Hammond and Tomasz Dobrzyn gave a creditable performance and the standard of play throughout the day was excellent.

The day was organised by league development officer Joe Beadle.

He said: “All the players and supporters said how much they had enjoyed the tournament and were impressed with the event and centre facilities, and some
expressed an interest in joining the local league.”
