The Spalding and District League (sponsored by Vital Recruitment) resumes tomorrow (Wednesday) after its festive break.

Division One, now well into its first round of return matches, sees everyone chasing Bladerunners who hold a three-point lead with two matches in hand.

It’s a similar story in Division Two where there is also a substantial gap at the top. Leaders Castle Sports hold a six-point lead, while there is a five point gap to third.

However, there is a bit of a dogfight developing in the lower reaches with three teams – Mine’s A Pint, Nomads and Tornados – within three points of each other.

Meanwhile, the draw has been made for the first two rounds of the Marylands Cup and Guardian Cup.

Curiously, the holders of both trophies have byes in round one.

• Draw: Marylands Cup: Round One (to be played on January 13): Castle Sports v JAG (on table 1); South Holland v Defenders (2); Mine’s a Pint v Dark Knights (3); Outsiders v Ha’st (4); Insidious v Tornados (5); Haz Beans v Nomads (6). Bladerunners and Casey’s Pingers have byes.

• Round Two follows on (or before) February 12.

• Guardian Cup (to be played on January 29): Round One: Bladerunners v Haz Beans (1); Insidious v South Holland (2); Nomads v Castle Sports (3); Mine’s a Pint v Ha’st (4); Defenders v Casey’s Pingers (5); Dark Knights v Outsiders (6).

• Round Two matches will not be played until April.

As ever, there will be spare tables at the Castle Sports Complex for any visitors or new players that would like to try something new for a new year.
