SQUASH: Spalding lock out top two places

Have your say

Spalding Squash Club have completed a notable double after their top two teams finished first and second in the Peterborough and District League.

First to complete their fixtures was ‘Team One’ with a resounding 4-1 defeat of Rutland S C.

Number one Nick Wales had to concede his game after pulling a hamstring but the rest of the team all won to secure the runners-up spot in the league.

Clyde Finch had a thrilling 10-9 victory over Justin Fowler and Gary Harrison and Steve Hodgson both won 3-1. Captain Jon Farrow also won to round off a very successful season for the team.

Pride of place though must go to ‘Team Two’ who had the league won before their final fixture.

Also playing Rutland SC – and without number one Mark Smith – they too won 4-1 to add the final gloss to a championship winning season. Ben Smith, Martin Petit, Simon Faulkener and captain Gary Slater have all produced a great team effort and finished as worthy champions.

In League Two, the third team finished third overall, it was a very creditable performance considering Charlie Farrow had three ‘rookies’ in his team.
