PROMOTION hopefuls Holbeach A were handed a first Spalding and District League Division Two defeat of the year as plucky Consti F halted their title charge.

Unbeaten since December 9, the second tier leaders were handed a 4-2 reverse by Consti, who are one of four teams biding to hunt them down before the end of the season.

Wins for Bryan Turnell (R7), Martyn Kanley (R21) and crucially Robert Adams (O14) wrapped up the victory for the hosts, ending Holbeach’s seven-game winning run.

The best break in Division Two went to Tulips C’s Jack Chilvers (O14). He hit 40 as the basement side went down 4-2 at Gosberton B.

In the top flight, Tulips A’s stuttering form continued with a second defeat in three games.

The table toppers suffered a 4-2 home humbling at the hands of Crowland C, with Jamie Hunns firing a 35 break. Tulips are now just nine points clear at the top.

Meanwhile, Adam Barwell (O42) delivered a stand-out performance for Long Sutton A. He made a cracking 63 break in a timely 4-2 triumph over Donington C.

That was backed up by a 33 break from Stu Atkin (O42), while Neil Reynolds (O42) trousered a 31 for the Dons.

Down in Division Three, it was a big week for BSC B.

Chasing the title and promotion, they joined club rivals BSC F at the summit with a 6-0 hammering of Pyramid B.

Elsewhere, Mick Walker (O21) enjoyed a cracking week for Boundary C.

He made breaks of 31 and 28 to help the Deepings side brush aside Whittlesey C 5-1 on his own baize.

Crowland B’s John Bloomfield was also on-song, pocketing a 22 in a 4-2 success at Consti G.

Jason Bates (O70), not for the first time this season, stole the show in Division Four.

The Bourne SC B ace notched a 59 break in a 4-2 triumph at Gosberton C.

It was a good week for Consti D too, as they kept themselves bang in contention for the title. Martin Perkins (O21) picked up a cool 20 break as they cruised past friendly foes Consti C – moving to within five points of the top in the process.
