Sunday’s Carl Bilbie Pursuit Trophy at Welland Yacht Club was well attended with 11 boats in three races, including four from the junior section.

Using personal handicaps to allocate each start time, the theory is that at the end of the hour’s race time all boats should be in a similar location on the course.

Such was the diversity of class entered, the fastest boat left just over 18 minutes after the first.

Conditions were slightly windier than forecast with odd gusts.

As each boat set off, they made the best of the swirling wind conditions that the river banks provide – determined to catch the boat in front but ever mindful of the faster one behind.

Race 3 (7 boats): 1 Agar (0), 2 Follington (+1), 3 Paul Burton (+4), 4 Cobb (+1).

Proving that consistency is the key, Follington’s three second places gave her overall victory against Agar’s two wins with Cobb taking third place and Bell in fourth position.
