Spalding Men’s 2nd 9,
Ely City Men’s 2nd 0
Although Spalding dominated the first half against a ten man Ely side, they could not find the net for long periods and squandered numerous chances.
They led just 2-0 at the break but afterwards sorted themselves out to run home comfortable winners. Amazingly there were nine scorers in this one-sided game: Daniel Adams, Darren Grooby, Glenn Perkins, Sam Sly, Keith Stennett, Matthew Day, James Stone, David Dorey-Rodriguez and Glenn Richardson.
Bourne/Deeping 3rd 1 Spalding Men’s 3rd 4
Table toppers, Spalding put in a good team performance to restore their winning ways at Bourne/Deeping, a team that had beaten the seconds in the opening game of the season.
Skipper Steve Rogers led the way with a fine finish and further strikes from Chris McKenna (2) and Ryan Davy saw Spalding build up a 4-0 lead. The home side scored a consolation goal in the closing stages.
Long Sutton Men’s 3rd 0
St Neots 2nd 7
Long Sutton 3rds welcomed league leaders St Neots 2.
The visitors played positive free flowing hockey right from the start and soon started to create scoring opportunities.
With the home side struggling to get the ball into their opponents’ half, St Neots scored six without reply before half-time.
After the break, Long Sutton created several scoring opportunities without success and the visitors added another to finish up 7-0 winners.
Long Sutton Men’s 4th 3 Horncastle 2nd 10
Sutton scored first through White but Horncastle responded with three well worked goals, before 13-year-old Josh Baker smashed home a reverse stick shot from the edge of the D to pull one back.
Leading 4-2 at half-time, Horncastle took their chances well after the break to add a further six goals. But Sutton never gave up and Baker scored his second after good work from Portass and Goodley.
