LEE Rogers suffered a big blow in his bid to land the Pickuptruckracing.com Championship after a massive engine failure in qualifying hampered his progress at Donington Park.
The Chocolate Pizza Company (Crowland) sponsored racer did manage to grab some championship points with two 11th place finishes, leaving him 12th in the standings with nine races to go.
Rogers and his team had been working day and night to rebuild the engine – and they also added an upgrade to incorporate a fuel injection system, which is a permitted change allowed within the rules for this season.
With no testing carried out, Rogers was hoping to use the latest event at Donington Park as a shake down with the rebuilt engine, although inconsistent weather conditions and further mechanical issues soon put paid to his plans.
Race one was declared a wet race, although the team decided to stick with slick tyres as the track was visibly drying prior to the start.
This proved to be a poor decision as it started to rain again towards the final third of the race. Rogers did well to keep the truck on track to complete the distance.
Race two was dry although mechanical problems from the gearbox and the back axle meant that Rogers had to nurse the truck over the line to finish the race.
His next race is back at Donington Park for the final round of the Donington Challenge Cup on June 18 and 19.
