CHAMPIONSHIP leader Ben Wilson is keeping his feet on the ground ahead of this weekend’s trip to Brands Hatch.

The Gearlink Kawasaki ace heads to round eight of the British Supersport Championship with a dominant 53-point lead, with Saturday’s short sprint race and the feature event on Sunday in his sights.

The 29-year old racer from Kirton will be going all out for a couple of top results on the full GP course at the Kent circuit to ensure he remains in control as championship leader.

Wilson enjoys the 2.333-mile GP circuit and is confident he can pull two top results out of the bag.

He said: “Although I hold a healthy lead in the championship there is still a long way to go and I must remain focused.

“Ideally I need to complete both races this weekend ahead of Alistair Seeley who will be doing his utmost to beat me.

“Let’s hope the weather doesn’t mess up our weekend again, we could do with a couple of nice, dry warm days – unlike last time out at Oulton when the feature race had to be cancelled.”

There will be an official test session for the British Supersport riders on the short Indy circuit on Friday, ahead of free practice around the full circuit at 9am on Saturday.

Qualifying is at 12.25pm followed by the ten-lap sprint race at 4.55pm. The feature race takes place on Sunday at 3.35pm and will run over 18 laps.

• The postponed race from Oulton Park will now be held at Brands Hatch as part of the season finale.

That means there will be three races over the weekend of October 7-9 and 75 championship points up for grabs to decide the 2011 British Supersport championship.

Standings: 1st B Wilson (Gearlink Kawasaki) 268pts; 2nd A Seeley (Relentless TAS Suzuki) 215pts; 3rd B McConnell (Oxford Tag Triumph) 137pts; 4th P Young (Oxford Tag Triumph) 125pts.
