AN IMPRESSIVE showing from Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s ladies saw them secure a big win in their latest Trudy Bates match.
They cruised past Sleaford 16-0 on home soil to remain top of the southern section table.
Spalding won by 122 shots to 63, with J Horton, V Elms, M Jackson and S Wade leading the way with a 31-10 victory.
One other rink won comfortably, with M Dark and G Haney’s rinks winning by one and two respectively. Spalding are now favourites to win their section and set up a final clash with the winner of the northern section.
• Spalding’s over 60s team enjoyed a splendid 104-100 win at top of the table Dunholme. They prevailed on three of the five rinks, securing a 14-4 points success.
The team gave a wonderful performance, pulling back a 21 shot deficit at the halfway stage to take the lead three ends from the finish.
The best winning rink was skipped by John Culy and included Len Jackson, Alan Pitts and James Newby who was also captain.
• Spalding just missed out on glory against Stamford despite winning the return fixture of a two-legged annual Welland Salver event.
They went into the game with a 13 shot deficit from the first leg played at Stamford. Spalding won 111-106, but it wasn’t enough to win the trophy.
It was nip and tuck all the way through, but Spalding could not quite wrestle the trophy from Stamford’s grasp on this occasion.
Best rink for Spalding was Jean Collin, Brian Wheatley, Rob Graham and Derek Groves. Captain of the day was Dave Spridgen.
