INDOOR BOWLS: Lincolnshire lifted by Spalding seven

Have your say

SPALDING Indoor Bowls Club has no less than seven ladies representing Lincolnshire as they enjoyed a victory in the Atherley Trophy.

Held at Sleaford IBC, Margaret Dark, Sylvia Wade, Gill Needham, Betty Deaton, Val Bowker, Rebecca Simpson and Gloria Haney all played their part in a ten-shot victory over Nottinghamshire side in the national competition.

Lincolnshire, who won the national title last year, found themselves 42-18 down after five ends but battled back well.

• Spalding B lost their latest Lincs League Division Three fixture 110-79 against Sleaford B.

Spalding made a good start and found themselves 15 shots up after six ends but Sleaford came back well and ran out worthy winners. Spalding won on two rinks, the best being L Jackson, G Pearson, D Groves and J Taylor with a score of 21-16.

• Spalding’s over-60s lost their four-game winning streak at Grantham.

They lost 130-80, with Spalding’s only rink win coming from J Newby, D Groves, D Lunn and D Churchman. Captain Dave Marriott praised the spirit of his players.
