Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s Denny Cup side were soundly beaten by Desborough in the quarter finals of the national competition.

Played at Kempston Park Bowls Club on Saturday, Desborough proved too good for Spalding on the day and ran out 74-19 winners.

Spalding had no reply and, despite their best efforts, couldn’t find their fine form from previous rounds.

• Spalding IBC’s ladies secured an impressive 106-79 victory in their latest Trudy Bates match at Scunthorpe – taking 15 of the 16 match points on offer.

Their best winning rink was M Dark, L Cooke, J Horner and P Crampton.

• The friendly bowlers from Spalding IBC were edged out 125-121 by their counterparts at Boston on Sunday.

Spalding’s best rink (28-12) were Gill Haydon, John Gills and Eric Maltby, skipped by Maisie Belding. Captain for the day was Dave Spridgen.

• Spalding IBC over-60s earned a sixth win on the spin as they defeated visitors Grantham by 114-64 to go top of the table.

Their best winning rink was skipped by Gordon West and included Geoff Patterson, Alan Pitts and Pat Fillbrook.

Captain of the day was David Lunn.

• It’s now two wins from as many games for Spalding IBC’s young under-18 side after they earned a 32-13 home triumph over Lincoln.

The team of Aaron Barnes, Danielle Wild (who was making her debut), Ruby Hill and skip Jordan Philpott were 7-10 behind after ten ends, but levelled it up at 13-13 after 15 before finishing strongly.

Spalding face Stamford at home next on Sunday, March 9.
