A seven-a-side tournament and a night out at a curry house have raised valuable funds for Spalding Hockey Club.

The club made £847 after a Saturday tournament held at its Surfleet base and a further £585 from an evening at Spalding’s popular Tulip Tandoori restauarant.

The sevens competition involved 11 mixed teams from Spalding, Wisbech, Long Sutton and Bourne and money was raised through entry fees, food and drink.

Eventual winners were Sex Panthers, who beat a team from Long Sutton in the final.

Money was raised at the Tulip Tandoori from drink sales during a sponsored evening, and Abu Rasel and Sumon Khan from the restauarant came to the tournament to hand over the proceeds.

The club’s Harry Vickers told the Guardian the money raised, totalling £1,432, will go towards the general running and upkeep of the club.
