HOCKEY: Four-some news for Spalding as quartet seal promotion

Have your say

SPALDING Hockey Club now have four reasons to celebrate last season.

The Surfleet-based outfit have been boosted by news that two of their men’s teams have been promoted for next season after restructuring in the East League.

Both the ladies’ 1st (to the East League) and 2nd (to Cambs Premier) teams had already clinched promotion, meaning that four of the club’s eight senior league teams will be playing at a higher level next term.

Spalding men’s 1st only narrowly missed out on guaranteed promotion anyway, having scored a massive 129 goals in their 22 games, which was good enough for third place. They now move up to Division 2N.

The men’s 3rd team also finished in third place and they too have been promoted to join the club’s 2nd team in Division 4NW.

The promotions will mean a challenging time for the Spalding’s players next season – but preparations are already under way and attendance levels at the club’s Summer Sixes have been at a record high throughout June.

They will continue in July on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings (7.30pm-9pm) at the all-weather pitch at Glen Park.

Spalding are always keen to welcome new and former members.
