Spalding Golf Club’s juniors have won the Lincolnshire Champion Club title after edging out Market Rasen 2-1 in a tight final.

A very windy Belton Park course at Grantham was the venue for the county under-18 clash between the north and south Lincs champions, with the format a three pairs betterball matchplay, played off handicap.

With Spalding winning the southern section, confidence was high against northern winners Rasen.

It was far from straightforward for the Spalding side of Oliver Mitchell, Harry Hunt, Archie Davies, Matilde Kedzlie, Josh Parkin and Hugo Kedzlie, though.

The fabulous final went right down to the wire, with Parkin and Hugo Kedzlie finally clinching the crown at a first additional playoff hole.

First pair out Mitchell (3 handicap) and Hunt(6) came up against a strong Rasen pairing and it was no disgrace to lose their game 4&3.

But Davies (11) and Matilde Kedzlie (18) both knitted in very well and won their match convincingly 5&4 to level the clash up at 1-1.

This left Parkin (10) and Hugo Kedzlie (6) out on the course in the decider – and with their game finishing all square on the last hole, they faced the nervy prospect of an winner-takes all play-off.

In a nail-biting finish, the Spalding pair won the first extra play-off hole with a concession to take the trophy back to Surfleet.

The team will now represent Lincolnshire against all other county champions at Woodhall Spa Golf Club in August of next year.

There, they will attempt to become the English Champion Club.
