A RIDING team at Spalding High School has won the national schools’ Intermediate Showjumping Championship final.
The team of Christina Faulkner, Charlotte Taylor, Amy Wells and Ellie Stimson competed in the preliminary rounds at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre against 24 schools from all over the country and were lying in second place.
The top eight teams then qualified to jump in the international indoor Arena later that evening. Jumping in reverse order, the Spalding riders were second last to go. Team orders were for clear rounds in the jump off without unnecessary risk.
Three fast clear rounds were achieved in the electric atmosphere.
With the last team to go, the result went down to the wire with the very last rider who faulted at the second last fence, leaving Spalding High School clear winners.
The team were presented with rugs, sashes, prizes and rosettes from the sponsors.
Faulkner was also placed 3rd individually in this class.
During the weekend, the senior team, with Alida Tysterman, were placed 3rd and 6th in the Jump with Style Championship Finals from hotly contested classes.
In a further qualifying speed class, Amy Wells and Charlotte Taylor were placed 2nd and 5th.
The junior team of Savarna Burrows, Holly Hetherington, Yasmin Peach, Lucy Daley and Olivia Gresswell competed successfully throughout the weekend in the ShowJumping and Jump with Style Championship Finals, finishing 10th overall.
Alice Gresswell along with Wells, Olivia Gresswell and Tysterman also competed in the Dressage Championship Final, finishing in the top half.
Alice Gresswell was also placed 5th individual in Prelim 14.
The squad thanks team trainer Jane Carter for all her help.
