EBF Spalding and District League: ROYAL Mail Cart A successfully made it back-to-back Division One titles as they swept aside nearest rivals Ayscoughfee A 5-1.
Knowing a big win would be enough to take an unassailable lead in the race for the league’s biggest prize, Mail Cart delivered a typically impressive showing to ensure they defended their top tier crown.
Three of their four rinks found something like their best form, with Mel Mashford, A Dolton and A Radford (26-11) top scoring on a momentous night for the Spalding side.
Also impressive were N Baker, Peter Horsfield and Martin Simpson (24-15), helping Mail Cart move onto 73 points – the same number that clinched them the league last season.
However, with three games still to play they are on-course for the biggest points tally in recent seasons.
Carter’s Park A remain in the hunt for second place following a handsome 5-1 home success over Whaplode Drove.
They racked up 90 points, with 29 of them coming from Scott Dunham, Annalisa Bellamy and A Dunham.
Moulton Harrox A also have designs on second spot following a 5-1 success at Bourne Town A. Their best set saw B Duke, A Greaves and R Duke prevail 24-10.
In Division Two, Castle A are edging ever-closer to the championship. They extender an already ample lead to 20.5 points after what could prove a pivotal week in the race for glory.
In a match that was always going to swing the title race one way or another, they blitzed second-placed Carter’s Park B 5-1.
All four rinks for Castle managed 21 or more shots, with the 24-6 success from David Marriot, Don Churchman and John Culy the most eye-catching.
A four-point haul or better in their final game will be enough for Castle, while Holbeach side Carter’s Park really require four maximum wins from their outstanding fixtures.
At the foot, Long Sutton A continued their unlikely charge for survival after registering another impressive win. This time they knocked off Gosberton 4.5-1.5, with D Fairbrother, S Rawlings and D Saunders scoring 24 shots.
With two games in hand, Sutton are now just 4.5 points away from jumping out of the bottom two.
Division Three is almost done and dusted, with Whaplode Drove B now 15 points clear of the rest.
They took an impressive 5.5 point haul against Ayscoughfee B, as John Riley, Brian Jones and Stan Cleaver helped themselves to a 25-10 rink return.
Only Moulton Harrox B, who have a game in hand on the leaders, stand any chance of hunting them down.
They kept themselves in touch with a 5-1 drubbing on Spalding Town C, scoring 101 shots in the proccess.
Top scoring were J Hicks, R Maddison and J Taylor with a 30-12 victory.
With Castle B already Division Four champions, Long Sutton B are in pole position for second spot.
They beat Moulton Harrox D to go 4.5 points ahead of nearest challengers Moulton Harrox C.
