Have your say

EBF Spalding & District League: CASTLE A stunned Division Two leaders Carter’s Park B as they shattered their flawless run to move within one point of the summit.

Having reeled off six wins on the trot, the table toppers went into the heavyweight clash as firm favourites.

But, in what proved a really close clash, Castle clinched three rinks wins – and the aggregate spoils (72-65) – to prevail 5-1, with Lorna Banks, Brian Benton and Gordon West their most convincing winners.

Third-placed Gosberton also cashed in on Carter’s Park’s slip-up with an impressive 6-0 success at Long Sutton A.

Pick of their four rink winners were L While, B McAllister and G Wilson, who prevailed 30-17.

In the top flight, Royal Mail Cart A and Donington both stretched their unbeaten starts to six games.

Mail Cart lead the way by 1.5 points following a ruthless 6-0 victory over Ayscoughfee A – who had won four out of five before the clash.

The undoubted stars of the day were M Mashford, M Dolton and A Radford, who streaked to a 36-9 rink return.

Donington were made to work much harder for their win at Spalding Town A.

With both sides taking two rinks apiece, a big 29-11 triumph from the set of T Williams, T Stanley and O Timm helped secure a 4-2 win.

At the foot, winless Consti A and Billingborough contested an entertaining 3-3 draw.

Boro’ looked set for an important win after taking three of the four rinks, but a massive 29-12 return from M Gosling, R Ginders and B McGowen earned Consti their first positive result in their seven games so far this season.

Whaplode Drove B boast a 100 per cent record after six games in Division Three – but they’re not top of the pile.

They battled to a deserved 5-1 win at Ayscouhgfee B, which included an stand-out 25-13 rink win from E Moore, D Futter and D Claxton.

It’s Consti B that top the table though, after their 6-0 triumph at Bourne B.

An impressive 88 shots were scored by the leaders, who had M Pepper, C Young and P Stacey to thanks for 30 of them.

Elsewhere, Division Four leaders Castle B lost their 100 per cent record at Holbeach USC B – but were probably pretty happy to come away with a 3-3 draw.

Having lost three rinks pretty convincingly, they got out of jail thanks to a mammoth 44-7 rink win from terrific trio D Marriott, B Daff and B Benton.

The draw didn’t cost Castle too much, with second-placed Long Sutton B chipping just a point off their lead.

They picked up a 4-2 victory at Moulton Harrox D, with L Birds, S Dibella and S Bass (22-7) producing the set of the match.
