EBF Spalding and District Bowls League: AFTER 11 successive wins, Royal Mail Cart A finally tasted defeat in Division One as Moulton Harrox A delivered their stand-out showing of the season.

Bidding to cement their status as title favourites, Mail Cart were stunned by a 5-1 reverse – which could potentially allow Donington a route into the race for top tier honours.

Harrox picked up three impressive rink wins against the long-term leaders, with the biggest winning margin coming from talented trio N Pentney, S Quinton and C Jackson (23-11).

Second-placed Donington did their best to take advantage of the Mail Cart loss, as they secured a 4.5-1.5 triumph at Consti A.

With the opening rink draw, important victories from D Bristow, D Slaughter and M Laidler (25-16) and T Williams, T Stanley and J Gott (22-15) got the job done for the title hopefuls – who have a game in hand on the table toppers.

Third-placed Carter’s Park A were the big winners in Division One, racking up 103 shots in their 5-1 beating of basement boys Bourne A.

A hugely impressive 41-7 win from Scott Dunham, Annalisa Bellamy and A Dunham set the tone for the success.

In Division Two, Sutton Bridge A put the skids on Castle A’s title charge with an eye-catching 4-2 home triumph.

Each of the four rinks was nip and tuck, making an 18-13 win from R Larham, C Green and R Ward pivotal. Both sides had two winning sets, but Bridge edged it 74-71 on aggregate to take the spoils.

With two games in hand, second-placed Carter’s Park B look to be Castle’s main challengers for the second tier crown.

They cut the gap to 9.5 points with a narrow 4-2 success at Spalding Town B. Again, there was very little in this one, making a 22-10 rink return from Kath Crane, C Bent and P Towers pivotal.

Meanwhile, Division Three leaders Whaplode Drove B kept their winning streak going with an 11th victory on the bounce.

Sutton Bridge C were their latest victims to the tune of 5-1, as Drove stretched their advantage over the rest to 5.5 points.

They took three of the four rinks, with a 22-10 win from J Riley, B Jones and M Gavaghan the top scorers.

Consti B lost ground in the race for top spot as slipped up 4-2 at third-placed Ayscoughfee B.

Top trio M Copcutt, N Brown and G Brakes weren’t messing around in the opening rink, registering a big 33-4 triumph.

Towards the foot there was a welcome win from Sutton Bridge B, who beat bottom side Bourne B 4.5-1.5 to register only a second success of the season.

In Division Four, Moulton Harrox D were the big winners. They blew away Holbeach USC B 6-0 as all four rinks amassed 20 or more shots.

Club-mates Moulton Harrox C also enjoyed an impressive result, knocking off second-placed Long Sutton B 4-2 on their own green.

R Wade, G Pearson and S Stanley (26-10) led by example.
