SPALDING and District Darts League player Claire Ball became the first player in 47 county matches to beat the world’s number one Deta Hedman.

It came in Cambridgeshire’s 18-18 draw with Oxfordshire.

Hedman – the 2012 Lakeside World Championship runner-up – went 2-0 up.

Ball fought back to level the score and in the final leg went out on double 16.

Ball will be playing alongside Hedman for England on April 14 at the home internationals in Wales.

Cambridgeshire official and Spalding league player Ian Tilley said: “This result at Oxfordshire will help to cement her England place hopefully for years to come.”

England Men’s captain Martin Adams had three 180s and won man-of-the-match award with a 31.02 average.
