Talented Spalding Cycling Club duo Matt Ellis and Jake Norton have both enjoyed fine finishes to the cyclo cross season.
Ellis led the way, having finished in a fine third place in the National Cyclo Cross Trophy Series.
Consisting of six rounds in Wales, Southampton, Milton Keynes, Durham, Bradford and finally Shrewsbury, Ellis went into the final round in fourth spot overall.
However, he managed to put enough distance between himself and the rider in third to gain enough points for a national bronze medal.
Ellis was joined by Norton in the National Cyclo Cross Championships at Derby a few weeks ago.
A fine start saw Ellis leading into the first corner, but he then slipped on a muddy section and lost some time early in the race. He battled back to finish in sixth place overall on the day, which represented a fine effort.
Norton still has another year left in the under-14 age group, but still managed to finished in 17th – making him one of the top first year riders in the category.
Both Spalding cyclists will be riding for Sherwood Pines Cycles’ ‘SRAM’ Race Team in 2014.
They will be competing in all the national road and track events during the summer, including the International Isle of Man Youth Tour.
