Long Sutton’s pursuit of the Spalding and District Billiards League title gathered more pace last week after they made it back-to-back whitewash wins.

Leaders Sutton brushed aside Pyramid A 7-0 to extend their lead at the top to ten points, with just seven rounds of fixtures to play.

Sean Swinburn (O20) top scored with a 40 break, while Wayne Dent (R30) made a cool 32 before Adam Barwell (O10) wrapped up the victory with an unfinished 28.

Crowland B remain second after they edged out rock-bottom Gosberton 4-3. As ever, Rob Childs (O190) shone with breaks of 35 and 30 en route to a frame return, with Paul Holland (R70) their other victor.

Elsewhere, another Mick Johnson masteclass guided Consti B to a 5-2 triumph over Consti D. The O160 handicapper pocketed brilliant breaks of 8 3 and 73 as he clinched the decisive final frame.

Hugh Pinner (O170) was another player on red-hot form as his Holbeach A side crushed hosts Pyramid B 7-0.

Veteran potter Pinner helped himself to a 71 break in the maximum win, while team-mate Nigel Hackett (O20) added two efforts of 29 in his victory.

Meanwhile, there was something of a rarity in Holbeach B’s success over Donington. Both teams ended up on an aggregate score of 549, meaning Holbeach collected a 4.5-2.5 win. That’s after Phil Coaten (R70) and Nigel Ward (R70) claimed frame wins.

The other two games in the league finished 5-2. Holbeach C saw off Crowland A despite Neil Burton’s (R80) 36 break, while Consti A saw off Consti C.
