BOURNE badminton star Megan Hassall blew away her opposition to pick up a title double at the Lincolnshire County Badminton Championships.
The 11-year-old, who attends Bourne Abbey Primary Academy, lost only 17 points in two separate county finals.
Having finished runner-up in last year’s under-11 girls’ singles event, starlet Hassall, who trains at South Kesteven Badminton Academy in Grantham, was determined to go one better this year. And she went about here business with style, breezing untroubled into the final.
Once there, she set about her business with poise and aggression, sweeping to the first game for the loss of just four points and then becoming even more dominant in the second, winning 15-4, 15-2 to claim her first county title.
Young gun Hassall then teamed up with nine-year-old Megan Diggle, of Scunthorpe, in the under-11 doubles. The pair faced much stiffer opposition than in the singles, but the Bourne ace carried her fine form into the doubles and was almost untouchable.
That proved the catalyst for the duo to sweep through the opening rounds, before clinching the final in straight sets 15-6, 15-5. With two county titles under her belt in one day, Hassall is in the perfect position as she continues to compete for Lincolnshire.
