Spalding United’s under-21s equalled their biggest win of the season to extend the unbeaten record.

The Tulips have won by the same scoreline away to Newark Town, Harrowby United and Sleaford Sports.

George Couzens and Marcel Chipamaunga got hat-tricks at Eslaforde Park on Wednesday night.

Hayden Havard and Scott Floyd were also on target – but Spalding should have claimed double figures.

Jordan Neil missed a late penalty after Owen Park had replied for the bottom-of-the-table hosts.

The Tulips have failed to keep a clean sheet since their opening-day home win over Boston United.

Under-21 development manager Lewis Thorogood said: “It was great to win again but people will look at this scoreline and wonder whether the opposition are strong enough.

“We have got a very good group of lads who probably don’t get enough recognition.

“They could have scored 16 goals but we are on top of the table with an unbeaten record.

“We still can’t keep a clean sheet but overall it was job done.

“The players need the right mentality to develop going forward.

“It’s all about concentration and discipline in these games. The lads apologised for a lack of communication when we conceded but it shouldn’t have got to that stage.

“Without any first-team players involved, this was a true opportunity to show what the full under-21 squad is all about.

“The boys are knocking on the door for the first-team squad going forward.

“We shouldn’t be critical but the reality is that we look for perfection.

“We would have been happy to take a 3-0 or 4-0 win because of the clean sheet.”
