Spalding United boss full of praise for 'spirit, character and energy' in home win over Ilkeston Town
What a week for Spalding United caretaker manager Lewis Thorogood.
After guiding the Tulips to a 1-0 victory at Loughborough Dynamo, he was given the role until at least the end of the season.
A single strike against Ilkeston Town on Saturday was enough for three more points in the BetVictor Northern Premier League South East Division - moving them into eighth place, only four points away from the promotion play-off pack.
Thorogood reflected: "We carried on from last week. We have shown what we are about in terms of our spirit, character and energy.
"It wasn't the prettiest game as the wind was a big factor for both teams.
"We would have been happy to stay at 0-0 in the first half and give ourselves a chance.
"So the fact we went 1-0 up was a huge bonus.
"We were always going to have the advantage in the second half, although we didn't have it all our own way.
"Ilkeston had chances but everybody put in a fantastic shift against them.
"Kevin Bastos should have finished off a one-on-one chance but the keeper also made a superb save from Lewis Brownhill.
"It was a good day at the office.
"We've taken full points from two games against Loughborough Dynamo and four points off Ilkeston who are another good side.
"They are going through a transitional period but they will beat many teams home and away this season.
"We've kept two clean sheets in successive wins and I'm more impressed that we have finally won a home game for the first time since September."
