Pinchbeck announce new scholarship scheme

Pinchbeck United have announced a new scholarship scheme that will allow aspiring football players to stay in full-time education whilst playing the sport they love.

This scholarship scheme is in collaboration with One Touch Football and is the first scheme of its kind in the South Holland area.

This scheme will allow young footballers to study English and Maths while giving them a clear pathway into first team football at a step five level.

The Knights manager Lewis Thorogood said: “I’m really excited for this new scheme as it’s the first one in this area and very much needed.

“With my background always being in youth development, it’s quite an exciting opportunity for me.

“It can either be a two or three year course and it gives aspiring footballers an opportunity and pathway into first team football at a good level.

“It’s a provision that South Holland doesn’t have at the moment, and to be the first club to do so is
exciting.

“I believe in this scheme and it’s something I want to see grow and prosper, and if it does then it should grow into something beautiful.

“We can use my past experiences at the likes of Boston and Spalding, and I believe if we do it the right way it should be good for the club.

“A lot of people have been quick to say that I don’t support the youth, but I don’t believe that as my Pinchbeck squad is quite a youthful one

“We’ve also given (first team coach) Alfie Tate an opportunity within the club, and everyone knows he was the youngest manager in the FA Cup, so we’re always giving younger people an opportunity in the game to flourish.

“My background is all about grassroots through to elite, and now with this provision I’ve got the chance to extend my knowledge.

“Not only is there pathways into the first team, there’s also a pathway into the FA Youth Cup, and it’s all about giving aspiring footballers a chance.

“We’ve got a chance here to re-invigorate football in the local area, and for us to start it would be a good thing.”
