Katie on brink of cross-country title

Have your say

NENE Valley Harrier Katie Hutchinson is just one more win away from clinching the Under-15 girls’ Lincolnshire Cross-Country League title.

She followed her victory at Skegness with another good win at Louth, running away from the rest of the field to win comfortably.

She showed excellent strength, pushing hard to catch an under-17 runner – Hutchinson not realising she was not in the same race.

Although only a small Harriers contingent attended, the windy and hilly course provided the environment for good performances.

Jonathon Friend kicked it off again, finishing 3rd in the under 11 boys’ race. He’s now had good scores for him in the overall league position.

Emily Grant, in her first race for Harriers, ran well to finish 8th in the under-13 girls and Oliver Hutchinson got his second consecutive 9th place in the under-13 boys’ league.

In the ladies’ event, Nicky Morgan (5th) and a returning Steph Beavis would have benefited from a third athlete to make up the team.

This would have been good scoring after the ladies’ team win last week.

The men’s race was a big disappointment for Harriers in terms of team effort after a maximum score the previous week. Only 100m sprinter Adam Caress signalled his return after injury with a fine 42nd place finish.

Results: U/11 boys – Jonathan Friend, 3rd; U/13 girls – Emily Gent, 8th; U/13 Boys – Oliver Hutchinson, 9th; U/15 Girls – Katie Hutchinson, 1st; U/20 Ladies/Snr Ladies – Nicky Morgan, 5th; Steph Beavis, 9th; U/20 Boys/Snr men – Adam Caress, 42nd.
