JUNIOR RUGBY: Perfect NLD start for Town’s teens

Have your say

SPALDING RFC under-13s began their NLD Cup campaign with a bonus point victory over Matlock.

Jordan Searle got the ball rolling with an arcing individual try, before Corey Lewis swooped on a badly telegraphed pass to intercept and cover the 50 metres to touch down for a try which Oliver Johnson converted.

More Spalding points followed, as J J Faulkner went over near the posts to give his side a 17-0 half-time lead.

Town dominated the second period too, but had to wait to score again.

With very little time left, Matlock were penalised at the scrum and from the tap penalty, Alex Worth sent Lewis in for the important bonus point try.

The conversion failed, but Town secured an impressive 22-0 win.

• SPALDING’S under-11 side have qualified for the 2012 NLD Cup after sharing the county crown.

In a large pool group they beat Scunthorpe 3-0, defeated Grimsby by seven tries to nil and cruised past Lincoln 4-0.

They then defeated Stamford by three tries to nil to win their pool.

In the final they drew 1-1 with Sleaford to share the crown – meaning they’ll get the chance to claim the Three Counties crown for a fourth time in five years.
