Driver Johnathan Hoggard will compete in the Formula 3 Championship for Jenzer Motorsport
Years of hard work have paid off for Weston Hills racer Johnathan Hoggard after he clinched a place in the Formula 3 Championship.
The 20-year-old has been recruited by the Jenzer Motorsport team as a replacement for Pierre-Louis Chovet.
He will make his F3 bow in the second round of the series at Le Castellet in France over the weekend of June 18-20 after his surprise call-up.
The former Deepings School pupil said: “It was unexpected and it happened so quickly.
“But I have worked for this opportunity for years and will do my best from the next race at the Paul Ricard circuit onwards.”
Hoggard drove for Jenzer in the 2020 post-season testing at Barcelona but did not feature prior to this year’s event which started last month with the opening round at the Spanish circuit.
He is a previous winner of the 2019 Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year award and has twice finished in the top three of the British Formula 3 Championship.
Hoggard has also tested one of Red Bull Racing’s RB8s at Silverstone – the Briton’s first experience of Formula 1 machinery – and his new team principal is backing their protege to shine.
Andreas Jenzer commented: “Getting a new driver on board after all official tests and the first round over is always challenging but we trust Johnathan to be fully involved and dedicated to catch this opportunity.”
