Nick Worth, a director of Long Sutton Community Sports Association and a qualified hockey umpire, said: "It’s a big achievement for a small, local club to get an artificial pitch and we’re all really excited.

“It came to a total cost of around £200,000 but we raised a lot of the money through grants from Sport England and things like that.

“It’s also a bonus for University Academy Long Sutton and we’re hoping they will use it to help us as a club in getting more players.

“We’ve got some great men’s and ladies' teams and a great youth set-up as well.

“The new pitch really does set the standard for the local area and so we would welcome everyone to come along.”
