HOCKEY: Skills on show at summer camp
Spalding Hockey Club hosted the eighth annual Matt Taylor summer camp at Glen Park, Surfleet.
Around 50 local youngsters - the majority from the host club - were put though their paces by Taylor and his team.
Taylor is a former England international and currently director of hockey at Nottingham University.
He brought with him a team of highly experienced coaches, all of whom are either former internationals or currently playing at National League level.
The youngsters enjoyed learning new skills and competing in small-sided games in a highly enjoyable two-day camp.
Taylor praised the youngsters for their skills, commitment and great attitude.
Prizes were awarded prizes to the winners of each group: goalkeeper - Oscar Haunch (Spalding), junior age group - Reuben Rogers (Spalding), intermediate group - Norah Brill (Bourne Deeping), senior group - George Halgarth (Spalding), overall player of the camp - Ivy Kettlewell (Stamford School).
The ninth camp is planned for August 19 and 20.
Spalding’s popular junior coaching sessions for boys and girls aged six to 14 years get under way on Saturday at Glen Park.
These sessions will run from 9.15-10.45 weekly until the Christmas break on December 14.
The club asks for £3.50 per week or £35 for the 14-week programme to cover pitch hire and equipment costs. Please wear suitable trainers and shinpads - sticks are provided if necessary.
Spalding have arranged to start this autumn programme with inter-club tournaments at under-9, 11 and 13 age levels.
