HOCKEY: Leuty's late strike enough for three points
Charlie Leuty marked her return with the only goal as Long Sutton saw off bottom-of-the-table Newmarket.
Without the ever-dependable Gemma Parr, the home side also welcomed the return of captain Jo Bland.
Leuty and Bland provided extra dimensions which enabled the Gittins twins and Amber Jones to create chances.
The back line of Lorraine Wallis in goal, Lauren Cooper, Tania White, Maisie Sullivan and Jess Burton held firm at the other end.
A tactical change at the start of the second half allowed Leuty more space.
However, clear-cut chances were limited as Wallis remained resolute and determined for another clean sheet.
In the final 15 minutes, a short corner routine saw Hannah Baker shoot wide to the unmarked Leuty whose reverse stick slapped the ball into the goal.
Victory means Long Sutton have picked up seven points from the last nine available.
The men's first team lost 5-2 to City of Peterborough 3rd.
Alex Canham put the visitors ahead and he struck again to make it 2-2 from a well-worked routine at a short corner.
Peterborough changed their formation and added three goals when Sutton did not react.
