Long Sutton ladies' first continue unbeaten run with draw at Pelicans

Long Sutton ladies' firsts extended their run of games without defeat to five after a draw at King's Lynn-based Pelicans.

The visitors game started brightly, pushing Pelicans back and forcing the keeper to make some good saves.

Twin sisters Connie and Emmy Gittins were causing their opponents problems with their speed, along with Amber Jones running the channels.

At the other end, Pelicans had trouble getting behind the Sutton defence of Lauren Cooper, Tania White, Maisie Sullivan and Jess Burton, leaving keeper Lorraine Wallis to be a virtual spectator.

But the temporary loss of White and a change of position for Gemma Parr blunted the Sutton attack and the first half ended goalless.

Sutton regained the initiative with White back in the side and as Parr pushed higher up the field, the visitors were awarded a short corner from which captain Jo Bland found the bottom corner.

As Jemima Dodd and Hannah Baker showed commitment to Sutton's cause, a well-deserved away win looked possible.

But inside the last ten minutes, a Pelicans' through-ball led to an equaliser for the home side.

This spurred the Lynn side on and Wallis was called upon to make her first save of the game to ensure that Sutton avoided what would have been a hard defeat to take.
