Welland Barbarians U15s pulled off an amazing achievement by winning the Notts, Lincs and Derby Shield Trophy against Market Rasen & Louth.

Two years ago the then-U13 teams of Deeping and Stamford were both close to disbandment due to insufficient player numbers.

The remaining boys joined together to form the Welland Barbarians, followed a season later by the year group below.

After a tough first, and better second, season the U15 were victorious with this success.

Barbarians were 5-0 down after 10 minutes, but fought on. Matt Lindley found himself in a loose maul with no one in front of him and ran to put the ball between the posts.

Rasen came back with a second try but Barbarians then won a tough touch line battle for Alfie Page to get their second try. Henry Bolton converted both Barbarian tries to Rasen’s none.

After a very tense final 10 minutes, with relentless Rasen pressure, Welland Barbarians won 14-10.

Both Barbarian teams are always keen to welcome new players and any local business who would like to sponsor them would also be appreciated.
