Golfers from Spalding have clinched the Lincolnshire League/South Lincolnshire League double

Spalding Golf Club’s men's first team are celebrating regional and county success.

Golfers lifted both the South Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire League titles, with the second honour coming to the club for the first time since 2008.

They met a team from Cleethorpes Golf Club in the Lincolnshire League Scratch Finals on the opposing team’s home course, with Spalding emerging as winners.

Earlier in the month, Spalding overcame challenging weather at Cleethorpes Golf Club to win the South Lincolnshire league title, with the trophy being presented to Paul Johnson.

Meanwhile, Spalding’s second team lost a play-off match against a team from Grimsby’s Waltham Windmill Golf Club.

Not to be outdone, a six-man team from Spalding Golf Club’s seniors’ section competed in the annual Wilkinson Cup event hosted by South Kyme Golf Club’s seniors at their course near Sleaford.

The Spalding team, Peter Bridge, Jim Dobson, Rick Edwards, Monty Brittain, Dave Halfteck and Neil Wilkinson, came first in a field of ten golf clubs with an aggregate team score of 200 points.

Despite playing in strong winds due to recent bad weather, Rick Edwards and Monty Brittain took the prize for the best pair with 72 points.
