GOLF: Ryan and Alex claim rugby club's honours
Spalding Rugby Club's annual golf day raised nearly £2,000 towards the costs of developing the new ground at Drain Bank North.
A total of 68 players took part in the pairs betterball competition at Spalding Golf Club - including last season's player of the year John Barrett, recently retired players such as the Duerden brothers plus supporters and friends.
The day was supported by main sponsor Turnbull of Spalding and many other local businesses together with an evening raffle.
The president's putting competition was won by Kathleen Yates.
Nearest the pin winners were Dave Halfteck (9th hole), Rob Groves (16th) and Pete Coupland (11th in two).
Overall winners were Ryan Frankish and Alex Anderson ahead of Halfteck and Rob Sampson.
Jackie Bailey-Scott and James Crampton were mixed pairs winners.
Meanwhile, it is foursomes season for the Spalding ladies.
Eighteen pairs entered the Coronation Foursomes.
The winners with 32 points were Gill Dewhurst and Jennifer Pipe - one in front of Sally West and Jean Wilkinson while third place went to Barbara Newcombe and Pat West on 30.
Fourteen pairs of ladies played in the Australian Spoons.
The winners were Bailey-Scott and Nicki Weller with 35 Stableford points.
Second on countback were Sue Dewar and Anne Ellis with 30 as Anita Cross and Olive Gooderson finished third.
Entrants can now play further rounds in an attempt to improve their score until the end of June and the eventual winners qualify for the next round in this national competition.
