March enjoy great Frostbite turnout
March Athletic Club runners were out in force at the weekend for round three of the season’s Virtual Frostbite League.
The January race is normally hosted by March AC from it’s Elm Road clubhouse, but despite COVID-19 putting paid to that, 38 runners hit the pavements for a proper Frostbite weather run: cold, icy and foggy, with plenty of mud for any off-road sections.
Two runners achieved PBs on their five-mile Frostbite runs: Barry Head with an impressive 34:39 and Deb Watts with a great run in 47:26.
First March AC runner home and first man was Luke Brown in 28:14, a superb time, all the more impressive as he is still coming back from illness. First lady home and fourth overall was Toni Alcaraz in 32:19, another impressive time given the early morning icy conditions.
Seven youngsters took part in the Junior Frostbite, running 1.5. Once again Luke and Matthew Cumbridge led the way in first and second places for the club, with Leah Barnes as first girl home.
Ahead of this race, March AC lay in fifth place overall in the league, with an impressive fourth place in the round two results. The next race is the weekend of February 13/14.
The weekend also saw veteran March AC runner Lavinia Seward receive her Race at Your Pacerunning medal for clocking up an impressive 1,008.43 miles in 2020.
Lavinia mainly completed miles on her treadmill as she has been isolating since March. She didn't start running until she was 62 and in her 17 years of running has so far completed nine full marathons, including The Great Wall of China marathon, lots of halves and 10k races, with many age group wins for the club.
