Young England keeper Freya needs a helping hand
The family of an elite teenage goalkeeper is appealing for sponsorship following her international call-up.
Freya Upson has been selected for the Team England squad which is taking part in the Futures Futsal Cup in Barcelona.
The 15-year-old, who is on the England pathway scheme, hopes to line up against players from Brazil, Spain and America in the tournament that runs from January 6-10 next year.
However, she needs to raise around £1,500 to help fund the trip and is appealing for backing to help with costs.
Mum Debbie explained: “We are bursting with pride at Freya’s selection as this tournament consists of elite players selected by their country to play.
“However, the trip is expensive so we are appealing for full or partial sponsorship or any donations which would help.
“I have multiple sclerosis myself and have had to give up my business as a shopkeeper and can no longer work.My husband works reduced hours to help me run the family home.
“Freya is the fifth child of six children who are all successful in their own right but, as you can imagine, money is quite tight.
“It is also a huge commitment for us as she plays matches that can be some distance away such as Bristol or Brighton but, because she is so talented, we sacrifice things to get her to training and matches.
“Freya has worked so hard for years, training religiously. She lives and breathes football and is now reaping the rewards for her hard work.”
Freya currently plays for MK Dons Under 16s and has been an elite footballer since she was 10-years-old.
She has previously been with Lincoln City’s centre of excellence and the regional talent centres at Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Boston United. She is also part of the Lincolnshire county team.
