SPALDING United boss Andy Stanhope reckons the experience of new skipper Glen Fuff will be key this season.
Along with another new recruit – keeper Luke McShane – Fuff won the UCL Premier Division title with St Neots Town FC last season.
The experienced central defender missed the start of pre-season through injury, but is fit to lead the Tulips’ title charge.
Spalding boss “Stan” also praised the team spirit his new-look side have developed over the summer, ahead of tomorrow’s opener at Northampton Spencer (3pm).
Stanhope said: “Fuffy has been there and done it at this level. He missed a bit of pre-season but is good to go.
“He’s one of a few players that have won the title before and that can only be good for us.
“The atmosphere of the camp is really, really good. That’s one of the most important things in football.”
Summer signings JP Duncliffe, Callum Earls, Danny Hussey, Danny French, Rob Hughes, Josh Ford and Liam Harrold and Ryan O’Loughlin are all pushing for starts at Studland Road, while Simon Mowbray has shrugged off a back injury and should feature.
Spencer, who finished 13th last season, have added strikers James Allcock, Sean Calcutt and Peter Okechukwu to their ranks, as well as ex-Cogenhoe United midfielder Joe Power.
They only won six of their 20 home games last season, losing nine.
