TULIPS 1 (Green 46) ST IVES TOWN 3 (Washington 17&62, Stead pen 19): The Tulips conceded top spot in the league to St Ives Town with a bit of a whimper.
Their unbeaten run was ended by a buoyant St Ives who made it three straight wins in the league.
Pat Rayment’s men knew what to expect with Conor Washington, the striker attracting all the attention in the league. And although it was not a great performance by the 20-year-old, he still managed to grab two goals.
His 17th minute drive took a wicked deflection to fly past Lee Drury in the Tulips’ net.
Then just two minutes later, Washington cut in from the left and laid the ball off to David Cobb who was tripped in the box. Jon Stead stepped up to smash in the penalty.
The Tulips could have made it 2-1 on the stroke of half-time but Scott Musgrove pulled his shot wide after St Ives keeper Nick Berrion fumbled a high ball.
However, just 60 seconds into the second half, Franny Green did get the Tulips motoring briefly with his fourth league goal of the season. Full-back Liam Bull neatly jinxed his way to the byline and when his cross was sliced onto the bar by a defender, Green picked up the pieces.
But the Tulips’ mini surge was quelled on 62 minutes with Washington’s second goal.
Tulips: Drury, Bull, Earls, Chamberlain (James), Fuff, Canoville, Doherty, Musgrove (Kennedy), Tolley (Joyce), Green, Steadman.
