Monday, 9.30am - ANDY Stanhope has been named as the new manager of Spalding United.

The ex-Tulips midfielder, who has been a regular in the crowd at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field this season, replaces Richard Scott, who resigned last Thursday.

Chairman Chris Toynton moved to land Stanhope in the wake of the resignation of assistant boss Andy Penny on Sunday.

Toynton said: “Following the resignations of Richard Scott and Andy Penny, the club have acted swiftly in appointing Andy Stanhope as manager with immediate effect.

“He will take charge of our game at Shepshed Dynamo tomorrow night.”
