TULIPS PREVIEW: Stanhope wants to see some spirit

Have your say

Sutton Coldfield Town v Spalding Utd (Saturday, 3pm) and Spalding Utd v Carlton Town (Monday 3pm): FOR Spalding United boss Andy Stanhope, this season can’t end soon enough.

The already relegated Tulips conclude a miserable Evo-Stik League First Division South campaign with an Easter double-header.

Plans are already afoot for next season in the UCL Premier Division, but ‘Stan’ wants his side to show some spirit and prove they want to be involved next season.

He said: “As it stands, some of the lads have a lot to prove.

“Obviously I’ve had a word with a few of the them about next season, but nothing has been decided.

“It’d be nice to see a bit of spirit in the performance, that’s been lacking of late.”

The Tulips are bidding to avoid a couple of unwanted milestones.

Spalding (15 points) are on course for their worst points return of their seven-year stint at step four of the Non-League ladder (19 in 2007/08) and are still to win away from home.

They are also one defeat away from equalling the mammoth high of 32 suffered last season.

Rick Brewer returns to the squad, but Daryl Chappell misses out after breaking his foot against Rainworth on Saturday.
