Spalding United 1 Sutton Coldfield Town 1: THE Tulips couldn’t hang on for a rare victory despite Josh Fuller’s superb 82nd minute opener on Tuesday night.
Freezing conditions and a meagre crowd of 32 at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field made for something of a dire Evo-Stik League First Division South fixture, which was lit up by two goals in 60 seconds in the closing stages.
Fuller, making his Spalding bow, opened the scoring with eight minutes remaining. The wide man combined well with Garath Pritchard down the right before slotting home superbly from the angle.
But Mark Bellingham levelled immediately from the kick off for a Sutton Coldfield outfit that came into the game as a top six side, despite the striker looking well offside.
A draw was about fair though, with the away side having the better of the chances.
